Weltec Biopower has completed an agricultural biogas plant in Príložany, Czech Republic.

The new plant has a biogas emergency flare and operates without a hygienization or separation unit. A 366kW CHP unit produces electricity that is fed into the grid while generated heat is used in the facilities and stables.

Biomass is on track to become the Czech Republic’s primary source of renewable energy by 2015, which has fuelled demand for biogas plants among investors and operators.

The EU and the Czech government provide incentives for biogas projects in the country, partly to bring down its relatively high per-capita carbon emissions.

Since 2005, the feed-in law for decentralized eco-power has resulted in an increase in the energy production from renewable sources. In 2010, around 10% was produced from alternative sources, compared with only 4% in 2008.
