Biomass CHP plans from E.ON

E.ON has submitted a planning application to build a £60 million (US$120 million) 25 MWe biomass-fired power station at Blackburn Meadows in Sheffield.
The new plant will burn a combination of recycled wood, forestry residue and specially grown crops such as willow and elephant grass, E.ON says.
The company is also looking at opportunities to supply heat to neighbouring commercial and industrial establishments, to run the facility as a CHP plant, further boosting the project's green status and efficiency, it says.
If the project gets the green light, construction is expected to start early in 2009, with the first power being produced in 2011.
